We’ve been working with Ox Vape for along time.
Recently, we’ve been going through some optimisation work on their website to improve speed and performance.
The website is vital to their day to day operations. Not only does it bring in online sales, but acts as their in-house POS (Point Of Sale) system.
With that in mind, their website needed to be robust, responsive and high-performing.
Here’s what we did…
The optimisation we have carried out
Hosting upgrade
We upgraded Ox Vape’s web hosting to our Managed eCommerce plan, making use of the extremely powerful WP Engine platform. We also migrated their name servers to Cloudflare, taking advantage of their enterprise DNS setup.
Theme upgrade
We rolled out a clean and clear custom theme for them, both from a code perspective and user frontend view. Every line of code was carefully thought out with optimisation built in from the ground.
Plugin streamlining
We spent some time streamlining and axing plugins that weren’t being used. As with a lot of old WordPress sites, plugins get collected over time and can drain resources. It’s important to clear up as you go or carry out some “spring cleaning” from time to time.
PHP update
After streamlining the plugins and upgrading the theme, we were able to safely update the PHP version to 8.0 (from 7.4). The upgrade brings improved speed and security.
The Result
You can see the Google Page Speed result below, scoring a respectful 90/100. This is great going for an eCommerce site. Equally, checkout their website here for yourself.
